as I said in axie gallery , sand is better cause gravel they will eat for sure and cause constipation, but IN MY OPINION it is better to use spherical sand cause doesn´t cause constipation as the normal irregular sand that most of the times does, I know after this post everyone will disagree with me.

Maja, a while ago I used large stones and found that it was difficult to keep the tank clean. (uneaten food and waste falling between the stones to the bottom of the tank)I switched to aquarium sand and found it to be much better. My axolotls haven't had any problems with constipation either.

Hope this helps.

Okay cool.. i already have some sand from the ofter tank ;) .oO( i dont hav 2 spend any money )

hehe.. thanks for the answers !

I also like the sand (I use pool-filter sand), much easier to clean. And my axolotls have pooed up a storm, lol

hey i didnt want to start a new post just for this Q. but i was just wondering if its safe to put soap stone into an aquarium. its a type of rock, nothing to do with soap. it turns a really nice colour when its wet. but im not sure it it will be safe in an aquarium. does anyone know?

do you mean these in the picture ? i hav never seen them before.. but i would´nt think that would harm them ..

It looks like varnish stones , I don´t advise to use them if it is , cause they can have some chemicals.

Hey, I Have some rocks like that in my tank, but they are all natural stones. shiny rocks are usually thrown through a rock tumbler. All it does is fine polish the stones. The pictured rocks that Maja posted are more likely Dyed than anything because some business's like to add dye to their rocks to change the colors or inhance them. Soapstone is a rock that is very soft and easy to carve. I think it would be ok to use, but because it is so soft it might change the water quality.

yeah i was thinking it might change the water quality. im tempted though it looks nice once its wet its a bit chalky though when u carve it :S i dont think ill risk it unless i know for sure. thanks anyway.
