Sand necesaary?

Hi,
Is the sand necessary in the axolotl tank?

It's not necessary. Some people prefer bare bottom tanks. I did for a long time, but added sand recently to switch things up. If you do use sand, make sure you use aquarium or play sand and rinse it very well prior to adding to your tank. I prefer just an inch at the bottom of the tank . It's easy to clean and easy to stir and make sure there aren't gas pockets building underneath.
