Hey everyone! As some of you know, my tank crashed (and my baby didn't make it). I was testing my water through the cycling process and could not get rid of my ammonia levels. I then thought maybe the bacteria was hiding in the old sand I had in there so I bought some new stuff today (I know it's appropriate substrate for axies). My question is, how did everyone clean their sand. I'm obviously looking for the easiest route since removing the old sand was a pain! Thanks in advance!

Put the sand in a big bucket (or multiple buckets) and turn on a hose to a powerful jet. Keep the sand moving in the bucket with your hands, stir it up hard, then turn off the hose. Detritus, dust etc will rise/float to the surface. Dump this water out while keeping the sand in the bucket. Keep repeating this process until the water in the bucket runs clear. Make sure the bucket is new and has not been used for any other purpose.
