Hi, I'm a new owner of 2 Chinese Fire bellied newts. I'm already an experienced tropical fish owner, so i did all the research i could about Chinese fire bellied newts before i had them. Sadly i only have read about "NOT PURCHASING THEM IN PET STORES" after i got them.

Originally I had 3, 2 females and a male. But 1 of the females didn't survive the first night so i came with the realization that they were in very very poor condition. The male had a small Developing white (at the time i figured sore) and the female was very inactive. So again i did the research. I Gave them salt baths 30 mins a day for 2 weeks, and the remaining 2 started getting back into shape. I named the Hannibal(M) and Andromeda(F). The female now became the more active one so i had my hopes up.

1 month in, I noticed Hannibal's eye wound started growing and he's more becoming inactive, resting most time only becoming active when feeding. I scared like hell now cause i think part of his skull is already showing. Andromeda on the other hand, im not sure but is starting to have signs of bloat on her left belly, she looks a bit disproportional now. i also started giving Hannibal a 30 mins methylene blue bath(2nd day now) cause i read in one of the threads here that it might work.

Please Help, :( i feel sorry for the little guys...
BTW, I live in the Philippines, im not sure if the Temp's making it worse, but im managing to keep the water chilly with ice bottles.

Salt baths won't work on these types of wounds. Here's an article on how to treat wounds in amphibians. There are also many threads on this type of issue.

These types of wounds are, unfortunately, common in firebelly newts. They're often fatal. If it's possible, you should get them to a vet and get them on antibiotics.

T_T Hannibal died today, he did put up a good fight. Rest in Peace my Friend.

Anyone knows a good way to preserve his remain's? I'm thinking of keeping his skeletons on a tiny bottle fr sentiments. I put him in a bottle filled with soil at the moment while the body decomposes. Just afraid there won't be any bones left being tiny and all...
