I must be beautiful to find almanzoris after a long walk to their habitat!
I read the name alfredschmidti in your post, is this the future name for the cf. bernardezi?

Amazing trip that must have been!

What kind of altitudes are we talking about for some of these species? The lichen makes it seem that it's above timberline...

Hi Tim,

Spain and especially the highly unpleasantly wet Asturias is always very rewarding for herps. The S. s. almanzoris are at approximately 2000 m asl. I found these bernardezi between 300 and 800 m asl.

Hi Frank,

really amazing photos of some beautiful creatures!
Though alfredschmidti are some of my favourite Salamandra ssp., I haven´t had the opportunity yet to see them in their natural habitat.

Regards, Ingo

Hi,

"alfredschmidti is a new subspecies of fire salamander (the Tendi valley bernardezi)" ...

salamanders from La Marea are called alfredschmidti too ;)

Greetings Michael ...
