Hi everyone,

I really wanted a tiger or spotted salamander. However, they're illegal to have in the state of California.

Can you all suggest some species that are similar? I am looking for a big species with a very very very big appetite. I want salamander or newt that has a voracious appetite and will eat everytime I feed it.

They are exceptionally hard to acquire but the Dicamptodon are the largest terrestrial salamanders in the world and are supposedly a really good alternative and are just as beautiful. If you find one they are also many many times more expensive then tiger or spotted salamanders.

Yes they are completely legal as far as I'm aware but I would do some research on your states laws as some species could be endangered in your area. On that note the largest terrestrial salamander the Coastal Giant salamander (Dicamptodon Tenebrosus) is native to north California coasts so if you are in the area you could probably find one for yourself.
