Salamander???

I bought a salamander today but I don't know what kind of salamander it is. It's green with a yellow belly. It has black spots on its belly and a yellow line on it's back. it has yellow rings on its "fingers".

Zoo girl, what country do you live in? And did you get it at a pet shop? This will narrow down the possibilities. If you are in the USA, then a marbled newt is certainly not a possibility.

I live in Argentine and I bought it at the acuarium nearby. It's about 2 inches large. how old is it?

I finally know what my little Scary is it's a Neurergus kaiseri (Kaiser's Spotted Newt) and now it's 3 inches. but this week it doesn't have the yellow spots he used to. why is that?? he's peeling again...O_O

That seems somehow unlikely to me. does the belly have little black dots on it? You said he's peeling again. I can't help but wonder if you are sure this is a salamander and not a lizard of some sort. Salamanders do shed, but not something you'd notice happening long enough to note that "he's peeling again".

Silly question, but does it have claws?

It doesn't have claws... but the belly does have black dots. how old could it be?

Don't bother, it appeared death out of it's tank. What could have happened? I don't remember my cat in the room.

black dots on the belly sounds like a standard Eastern Spotted newt to me. the line down the back is a bit odd though.

They get out easily. I've found them stolling down my hallway before. No way to know how old it was. We could perhaps give a minimum... but only if we knew where it was originally from (exactly where... not even just to state). My understanding is that some populations do not have an "eft" stage and may be younger as adults than other adult newts. So, if your newt was from CT I might think it is at least 4 or 5 years old. But if it's from a pond I used to visit in Ohio.. it could be 2.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
