I was wondering i i could use a minibar refrigerator to create a tank for my salamanders, because its too hot for them here and that would be, maybe the easiest way to keep them cool. any suggestions?!?!?
I've pondered the same idea for a display. The glass front tends to be a little more tinted than I care for, but it's a good idea. Check the temp range of the model you have though, some stay too cool.
It could be done, but there is a danger from any long power failure (or fridge failure). If the salamanders are adapted to a nice cold temperature, then they are very likely to die if their temperature goes up suddenly. On the other hand, they can adapt to warmer temperatures gradually and maybe be OK for a few weeks of heat during summer.
What other methods have you tried to keep them cool (and are they terrestrial or aquatic?) I just discovered that a fan blowing across the water of a tank can reduce the water temp from 76F to 68F in only a few hours - it's a lot more effective than I thought it would be. You can't do this with a terrestrial animal though.
thyre terrestrial now, but i guess its ebcause the temperature its a bit high for them, its arround 78-80 and because i have a wine cooler i tough i could useit, i tryed with the fan, but it wont fresh enough the tank, and becasue of the price on energy i cant aford to have an A/C all day long, now im puting ice under the tank it helps, but i have to chahgeit very often, thats wy i want to try something easyer.
for all of you that where specting me to post pictures, it wont be ale, because my dad, sudenly start to use his cooler again, but i start to save so i can make something for my pets.
