Found this on ThinkGeek, and OMG, I WANT ONE!!
ThinkGeek :: Evolvems - Evolutionary Transforming Plush
cb73_evolvems.jpg

Which happens to be...
"Coelacanth-Ichthyostega
The Coelacanth is a bony-finned fish who lived 410 million years ago. Those bony fins evolved into legs over millions of years and his gills turned to lungs, eventually transforming him into the Ichthyostega, who is part fish, part amphibian."
And having gone "hang on, that looks like a salamander/axie!" gone on to read further, and these guys are one of the most popular candidates for "Axie granddaddy!!"

*Cough*, anyway, thought it would be cool to share with my fellow amphibian obsessors!

I LOVE Ichthyostega!

The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History has a wonderful exhibit of early tetrapods. If you're ever in Washington DC, I highly recommend it!

Oh I love Think-Geek!!!

That's so cute though! You should check out etsy.com, in fact here's a link: http://www.etsy.com/search/handmade?q=axolotl they have a couple of cute axolotl items! My favourite being this one:

They also have a mudpuppy necklace that I think is unusual and quite pretty! I keep telling myself I'll get something from there...one day! :p

Kaysie, HOPEFULLLY i'll be in DC in Jan '12, so thanks for the heads up!
Mewsie, I agree! I'd love it even more if I had cash!!
Very awesome, Erzi! I had a look at the axie totem, and I think it's a perfect fit for me/ what I am/ what I need :D

Cute! I got this on etsy a few years ago. Mine's gills are pink, and he's a bit dirty because I snuggle him all the time. Don't judge me... my boyfriend is away doing his masters

Blimey! Loving the Etsy stuff, check out these Axolotl Nails

I'd buy some out of curiosity if I didn't need to keep my nails short for bass playing!

Haha I think they look vicious! I'd probably want just the one and make a necklace out of it, I have a little bit of a phobia of fake nails!

Wow, you have one of those? I'd love one but they are so expensive! I'm thinking of trying to make my own over the long holiday from Uni I have coming up!

Fake nails kind of wig me out too, but those are kinda cute. It would be fun to have on one nail for a day. Not practical though, couldn't wear them at school or work.

And yes I have one, his name is Ami (pronounced aww-mee) :p He's actually pretty big and really well done, worth every penny.I knit but can't crochet and wasn't brave enough to attempt that type of project on my own!

ETA: I think her prices went up a bit. I don't remember paying 65 plus shipping for mine.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! That's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!!! Haven't clicked the link yet, but I bet it's stoopidly expensive + I won't be able to justify getting 1 :(

This pic has been haunting me... I can crochet (mum too) and I'm terribly tempted to get it just so I can make one (and maybe get my mum to do one too). I think I'd like a full set and make wildtypes, goldens not to mention the Lucy that's SUPER cute :p

**Edit - okay I caved. I just purchased the pattern :) I'll crochet one and send a pic of the finished item if anyone is interested :D

So I finally finished my first little axie as per Erzs's link. Here he is (missing eyes 'cause I wasn't sure how big they needed to be, they'll get attached later :D)

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
