I have two ornaments that I have not yet put into my tank. One is a plastic rock I got at petSmart - I soaked it in tapwater for a day to be safe, should I do anything else with it before putting it into my tank?

The second one was a gift, it is a "ceramic bisque" piece, it is a sculpture with a shiny, painted outside (no flaking has occurred) and a rough inside. I have been soaking it for about 4 months in water leftover from water changes. It originally raised the pH of the water, but now doesn't change it at all. However, the inside still has a "clay-ish" scent whenever I remove it from the water. Should I get an epoxy and glaze it? Seal the inside with silicone?
Thanks!

Its an absolute must that there are no sharp edges, use a bit of sandpaper to grind down any rough or sharp areas :D

Yes, I made sure that there were no sharp edges! Thanks!
I am just wondering how to make sure I don't introduce any chemicals into my tank.
