I am curious if anyone has any knowledge on what is safe and what is not - I have a 40 gallon paludarium with plants like water lettuce, water sprite, water hyacinth, anarcharis, pennywort, various sword plants, bamboo, Java moss, wandering jew, and split-leaf philodendron.. the plant I have in question is a red maple. I have two saplings that are perfect size for the tank, and the roots would provide TONS of hiding places for the axolotls (this tank is for housing 3 axolotls). I just don't know if there are any substances in red maples that might be harmful to the axies... I know they have not been exposed to any chemicals such as pesticides/fertilizer/etc... I am not sure of natural occurring chemicals in the plant itself.. I know many plants are toxic, but I can't imagine a maple being so. Anyone have any ideas?
