Best solution is a can of brown spray paint on the bottom EXTERIOR of the tank. They make some really nice "stone" looking paints at Krylon now. By painting the bottom EXTERIOR of the tank it looks great and is much easier to keep clean. Also, no pica hazards.

I looked at some reviews of the product and the ingredients are a little vague. Some reviews say it will turn to mush after a year. It is formulated to release nutrients for plants. You probably don't need any extra nutrients in an axolotl tank. It looks o.k. for a plant tank. For a tank that is mainly an axolotl tank I would have second thoughts about using it.

The descriptions say you don't have to use extra fertilizer for your plants, so I assume it contains iron. It could be toxic for your axolotls.
