"Hutch" was my FBN that had left the water awhile back. Despite moving him to his own tank to give him more room, checking the water chemistry, and handfeeding him, he refused to go back into the water.
Several days ago - he finally went aquatic again...but we found his lifeless body last night at the bottom of the tank. He looked thin as his appetite hadn't been good, but we thought he turned the corner when he went back into the water. I don't know what went wrong, but I believe, based on what I now know, that he was wild caught and we have no idea of his age. Yesterday and the day before, I was all set to report his return to the water with joy...now this.
I'm now delighted that he leaves behind his legacy, 50 juveniles who hatched last year.
We'll miss you, Hutch! You were an awesome newt.
