I was just curious if this sup species of fire salamander is available in the U.S. or not.. I am new to this and would like to care for one of these species. I have been in the dart frog hobby for a while now and have some experience with amphibians. I have been reading a lot about the fire salamander and very interested in them and going to start building a viv for a pair soon.

The current situation with fire sals is rather sad. Periodically there are imports of wild-caught Salamandra (including fastuosa, rarely), most of which are legally protected in their home range, but they still end up in the pet trade and being imported into the US. People buy them up, then nothing - no significant availability of CB.

If you were to get a "pair" they would have to be from one of these WC imports of illegally-collected animals. If you want unsexed juveniles, it may be possible to get CB, but it will take some hunting and waiting.

I would like to stress that Jen is absolutely right. Any WC S.s.fastuosa in the market is an illegally poached animal. There are no legal collections of any iberian S.salamandra.
If you come across such animals, please be aware that buying them contributes to further poaching and illegal trade.
