I thought I would put this up for discussion hope this is the right place.

Well for my assignment I am researching the costings of keeping Tylototritons. I have worked out the initial costs including set ups, dietary requirements and animals.
Now the food costs are low as they self-replenish themselves and only purchase food to improve stock and supply variety.
The question I am putting forward for discussion is the electrical costs. I have researched costings for tropical tanks for like the T.verrucosus, £1 a day and looked at costs of running a reptile vivarium also about £1 a day.
Does this sound right to people?
Has anyone else given it any thought?

Or has anyone worked out the costs of running their newt room?

Depends what equipment and the wattage of each piece of equipment. If there's a water heater it will have a wattage, same with a heat mat or a filter or a lamp.from the wattage you can work out the number of kW used per hour. You can then have a look at an electricity bill to see what the companies charge per kW/h. You should be able to work out a pretty accurate electricity cost for your assignment.

I don't use any electricity source for mine, but others may run air pumps or heaters or whatnot.

OMG the LAST thing I want to do is figure out how much this hobby costs me. Some things are better left unknown.

As above, if I work it out my wife may see thats its my fault our electric bill is so high, I just blame the kids atm

Thanks Jane I think I have roughly worked it out. One quote is not to bad a few quid a week but the other is scary.
One I don't think otterwoman would want to see.
LOL Ian we do the same thing in my house my dad blames my tortoise where i blame the chickens incubators and heat bulbs and plus my sisters and lights.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
