So I just joined up today because I was getting annoyed because I couldn't view people's image attachments and also I am worried about my Axie; Rover who I have had for about a week. (he's my first)
I look at all the Axies on here and they all have nice long, fluffy gills, then I look at Rover's and they look kind of sad. When I brought him/her he was in a small tank about 20cm x 30cm (something like 0.6 x 0.9 feet) sharing it with 2 other axies. So I was thinking maybe they were having domestics from being in such a small tank.. or maybe he/she was just born with small gills? He's/She's also missing some tips of his/her toes. Enough of my boring chatter here he/she is (I even had to get a new photobucket account because it bleeped out my user name so I couldn't link to the pictures because of the stars )

FYI: Those aren't white dots on him/her they are just dirty marks on the glass.

Rover looks fine by me. None of my axolotls have fabulous gills either. But that's ok. They're still gorgeous, even without fluffy, feathery gills.

Oh ok, that's a relief. Though I do wish he had fabulous gills, but I like him all the same.

Hi BSQueen,
Your axie "Rover" is
a cutie.
Who couldn't love a face like that??
What a smile!
Frills aren't everything!
Cheers,
Chris.

I know, I think it's adorable. I do worry about it's intelligence sometimes but then again I don't think axies are particularly smart anyway.

Great looking axie BSQueen I have three one has beautiful feathery gills and one with short gills and the other is sort of in the middle.

What a character filled face

I didn't think you could get tigers in Australia?? So surely, it's not? I'm probably wrong though..

well, the coloration could go either way, but it looks like tigers that are metamorphosing.

the neotenic tissues are diminishing all over the body, head is rounding up, gills withdrawing, eyes protruding, fins shrinking,

looks like hes about to become terrestrial.

I think you may have a point there , especially as he may have been previously kept in poor conditions it has possibly triggered him to go through the morphing (?) process, alternatevley he has generally reacting to the poorer conditions of befor ( small tank , poor water condition etc) and will now begin to recover now that he is in good hands!

First time I've checked back in a while..
Are you saying Rover is going to metamorph? I don't think I could deal with that.. But I've had him/her for over a month now, wouldn't it have metamorphed already if it was going to? Is it going to stay in this state between metamorphed and "normal" forever or will it go one way? Gah, I'm worried about the poor little thing now. :(

I don't think Rover is going to morph. I think he just looks like he's got wimpy gills. That's not a problem.

i would have said that was a girl to be honest
