My old rough skinned newt Bully is 12. He recently broke a back leg. This was confirmed by a vet with an x-ray. My first question is, Can a newt with a small leg fracture heal the bone naturally? His second problem is that he is shedding his skin once a week instead of once a month like he used to. He looks really uncomfortable from the frequent sheds as it is taking him a long time to slough off the skin, about 3 days, and as soon as he finishes, he starts all over again. He also apparently has bloat according to what I found out on this website yesterday. He is a solo newt, so I don't think that his illness is bacterial. It could be poor PH of the water. I am reading up on what it needs to be now. I also found out that it could be kidney damage. My problem is that the vet that we have knows enough about newts to say that he doesn't know enough, nor does any other vet in this area. I live in Lakewood, WA, USA, about an hour from Seattle to the North an hour from Olympia to the south. Does anyone on here know of a vet that could help my poor Bully. I would drive a long way as far as 300 miles to be sure that he gets the right care. This is really upsetting because I have had him for 12 years because I rescued him from a horrible situation where his tank water was black because the jerk that had him fished him out of a river and didn't even know what he was or how to care for him. My care for him hasn't been perfect, but at least I did the research to find out about him and what he needs to live. Can anyone please help me? Bully is a tough guy and a real fighter, but he seems to be losing ground. There has to be a vet somewhere that can help him. Please let me know if you know of anyone that can help. Thanks. Bully's Mom
