Hi again folks

A few weeks down the line three of my Cynops Orientalis have morphed nicely and appear to be eating once more. The fourth one, who was slightly smaller than the other three to start with is now eating well and looking good though showing no inclination yet to morph. Here is a photo of the remaining larva looking fine.

The longer they stay larvae, the better, as they usually eat better while still in the water. But I'll bet it morphs within a couple of weeks.

Jen, I think the other 3 morphed a little early. I was surprised when he told me they were starting to climb out. We expected them to morph maybe next month. This little guy might morph on schedule.

Hi Jen

As Kaysie says we were surprised when they started morphing. The three that have morphed were eating very well indeed, and in fact the first one to morph seemed to go on a feeding frenzy just before starting. When I put the food in the tank it was almost like watching fish boiling at the surface for thrown bread. I did not notice this with the other two but they followed closely on the heels of the first in morphing. The remaining larva was a good 1/4" smaller than the others to start with and seemed to take a while to settle, though now seems fully settled and is eating well.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
