I was wondering what the general consensus is on reptile/amphibian conventions. Repticon is in Atlanta next weekend, and I thought it might be a good opportunity to at least go look at some animals.

Do they only have reptiles or are amphibians found there as well? Are conventions like this reputable places to get animals from?

ALSO, if this is totally the wrong place to post this thread please tell me and I'll delete it.

At the very least, they're great places to stock up on supplies! The ones I go to always have amphibians, but they tend to be a little more mainstream than I would like to see (think axolotols and Pacman frogs).

As far as reputable stock goes, I've found that it depends on the vendor. Certain sellers I don't trust much farther than I could throw them, and others I would consider an honor to even meet. You just have to do your research before going to the show.

I went to a reptile expo last spring, and it was awesome. There were some really cool reptiles, but also some nice amphibians. I bough two juvenile CB Salamandra salamandra terrestris, but there were also axolotls, Triturus marmoratus, pacman frogs, some dart frogs, and some other frog species. Nothing super exotic but still a awesome way to get amphibians for a good price. I am not sure about the expo you go to, but the one i went to doesn't allow any WC animals, only CB, so that's a big plus also.

Heh, yeah, they are, but that didn't stop a guy from bringing some....actually, he probably doesn't know the laws at all :nono:

EDIT: So that brings up something to look out for at expos or conventions, make sure you don't buy anything that is illegal!

I actually went by the Atlanta repticon yesterday (it's open again today I believe)

They did have a bunch of frogs, some axolotols and water dogs, and then I saw 4 tiger sals that looked to be a couple yrs old.

It was a neat experience!
