i went to my local pets mart and saw on the worms list that they have red wigglers are these blood worms? i bought crickets and wingless fruit flies but i was just wandering and trying to vary the diet......

From what I know, Red Wigglers is another name for compost worms and are not the same. The pet store you go to should have bloodworms in frozen cubes

From what I understand, live bloodworms are almost always full of parasites. If you'd like to feed live worms to your caudates, try live blackworms.

ok well.... i think thats what i meant would they have them in fishing stores?

Danny is correct:
Red wigglers = small earthworms.
Bloodworms = midge larvae (resemble large mosquito larvae, but bright red).

To confuse matters, some bait shops (and Jeff!) use the word "bloodworms" to mean red wiggler earthworms. All earthworms carry parasites, but they are not harmful. The advantages of live earthworms outweigh any risks, in my opinion.

Fishing stores always sell some kind of earthworms, and they are usually good for newts. It's very rare to find "true" live bloodworms anywhere in the US. Pet stores sell frozen bloodworms in cubes usually.

o ok thank you very much jen... your work in this field has helped me alot

Good luck with your worms! If all else fails, you can ALWAYS get nightcrawlers from bait shops and they are easy to cut into tiny pieces.
