Illness/Sickness: Red-backed salamander - clear bumps on back

Hello!

I recently collected salamanders from the wild for a grad. project. Most are fine, but there are a few I am keeping a close eye on. One in particular has me worried, as I have never seen something like this in other salamanders I have had in the lab (probably over 400 by now!). The spots are fairly hard as compared to the rest of the body, and are clear as opposed to the red and black around it. I've attached a picture for a better idea. Has anybody else seen something like this, and is it something I should be worried about? It seems to me like it may be a healing wound, but I'd appreciate input!

Those look like blisters, but you say they are hard to the touch. I have no idea if they are something to worry about. Doesn't look normal though.

I've seen it in wild salamanders, usually after they've been injured. Like getting pinched under a rock or log or when something's had a go at them.

Yeah, that was my theory as to how they might have arisen! For now I think I'll care for him/her using a separate water source, and if they appear to get worse I'll treat it with some diluted Baytril. We used this on a sick P. shermani once and it appeared to help.
