Recomended Axie Sand

I've read about pool filter sand and had a few questions:

Any brand better than others, or does it not matter?

Should it be cleaned first or can the filter handle the dust (canister filter)?

Sand is sand, really. Just make sure it's specifically for pool filters (which is coarser than 'play sand'), and NOT building/construction sand.

Definitely clean it. I usually put a couple inches of sand in a bucket, and then run a hose through the bottom. This will 'lift up' the dust. Stir it a lot. Do this outside or in the bathtub.
