heya. well they are hopefully going to hatch soon. i just have a few questions that i havent been able to find or that are scattered all over the place ive lost them.
1. do the newly hatched axies need an air stone, or anyv other type of aereation?.
2. how much and how often do you feed them?. im feeding brine shrimp. will they eat everything you give them?.
3. how fast does brineshrimp foul the water?
4. ideal water temp?
5. do you need a substrate for them?
if so. 6. what is the best way to clean it, i guess a strainer or vacume wouldnt be very safe with the little axies lol.
7. how long does it take healthy hatchlings to reach the stage where they will eat frozen blood worms?
8. when do you you start feeding? as soon as they have hatched?
9. do you have to help them hatch? there is alot of jelly stuff they need to get though! lol

well thats about all i can think of at them moment. i would really appreciate any answer anyone can give me. hopefully all goes well and ill have a few new axoltols to show for it ^_^ i cant wait! (well i probably can for all the work ill have to put into it lol) but other than that! ^_^

thanks

1. No

2. Daily. Yes, all my brine shrimp used to disappear - it's trial and error how much to feed though.

3. They die in freshwater after a couple of hours.

4. Not sure. Just room temp.

5. No. Better not to, makes it too hard to clean and hard to see them also.

6. I'm the idiot who didn't feed frozen foods at all so I'm guessing at the point where I started to feed blackworms you could try bloodworms. This is about 6-8 weeks down the track (i think...)

7. Dont start feeding until about 24 hrs after they've hatched.

8. Yes. Some need help with hatching. This is tricky. They will generally all hatch out within about 2 hrs of each other so any after that time, you can puncture the sac and let em loose.

Oh, and let us know when that "i'm so excited, this is great" becomes " dammit, I can't go out because I've got 3 hrs worth of axie maintenance ahead of me"

.

Good luck!

hey thanks heaps. lol yeah i can imagine the excitment isnt going to last long. but still its the first time and i dont have hundreds hatching. thank you so much for your help. how many times have you breed ur axoltols?

thank you again.

oh i can see eyes! lol. its still exciting for the moment!.

Hey Shane, I bet you have a hard time sleeping don't you? You just want to watch them all the time I bet! I look forward to breeding mine in the future! It will be so exciting!

yeah its so kool. i dont think it would be as interesting if you couldnt see them developing. they get bigger and bigger each day. the gills are really really visable now and i can see the eyes on a few lighter coloured ones. but its going to be alot of work. and i dont know what im going to do with them all once they have hatched!. lol i know 5 people that want one. so hopefully ill only have a couple more to sell. i just wish they will grow really fast so that i can start to feed them on frozen food. i still cant quite get the brineshrimp thing happening. i cant separate them/ >_<. lol.

hopefully you will have heaps of fun breeding in the future! how old are yours now?

I have raised axie babies a grand total of once. Once is enough for me!!

hehehe. yeah you never seem to make a point that breeding is alot of fun! well all that work probably wont be fun. but the little axies that u see growing would be well worth it wouldnt it?. what colouration of axies did you get>?

All types of colours except jet black. Mostly wildtypes and whites, with a smattering of yellows and albinos.

Yeah, it was definitely a good thing to do (once!) to watch them grow and realise that I can actually do something like this. So I think you will enjoy it Shane. Not long now then?

If you can track down what is called over here a brine shrimp hatchery - like a black box with a lid and a clear container jar, than this is quite a good way of separating out the live shrimps from the shells.

ahhhhhhhh one hatched!...only one!!!... it was hiding in my rocks! i thought it was just one that egg busted... ! its still alive. but im going to be away all tomorrow! ahh.! . lol. ill stop stressing. im just excited! lol. i dont know if they are meant to hatch yet though.

lol in my rush to tell everyone one hatched, i didnt notice ur reply. omg there are so many in that one container. did they try and nip at each other? i wish mine had a little albino or somethign else in them but all the eggs look like they are wild type.some are lighter or darker than others, so i hope something different comes out of them lol.

thanks for all of your help Anne-marie. and everyone else!

I only used to keep about 6-12 in a container that size at any one time. It was scrubbing-containers day and they were all lumped together while I did it so I took a pic.

Yeah, congratulations Shane - get ready!

thanks :D they are so interesting. little tadpole looking things.

they wont eat the brine shrimp!. well not that i can see. they arer so small it doesnt look like they know where they are!. its so hard getting enough brine shrimp from the one hatchery especially when they are spread out in the bottom of the containers! and there are more eggs than brine shrimp!!! ah

I had that same problem separating the shrimp and the eggs. I ended up getting black worms and chopping them up finely.
