Hey everyone! I'll have Alpine Newt eggs later this month, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to care & keep them. I've been doing my research for a few months now (I've never raised Alpines, just other Newt and Salamander species) and I think I have all of the information I need, but I just want to make sure everything goes smooth. So, if anyone is willing to help me out and give me a little care guide for the eggs (and larvae), that would be amazing. Thank you everyone and have a great day:)

I'm not an expert, I raised a batch last year & am waiting for them to lay eggs now. I fed brine shrimp twice a day using a disc hatcher, and kept daphnia & seed shrimp in with them. I used a pipette to clean up twice a day.

I had a small sponge filter, lots of live plants & did very small (maybe 10%) water changes daily. I lost a few at the beginning from too big a water change.

They didn't attack each other & are still very aquatic, one still has gills and he's in full breeding colour now.

what types of live plants?

I tried java moss & merimo but found the brine shrimp got stuck to it & it was a pain to keep clean, so I ended up with a bunch of elodea & hornwort. I added some ramshorn snails once they'd hatched to help keep the container clean & control algae. I moved them to their current tank when they were about 6 weeks old.

I don't have experience with other newts but found these ones ate a lot & grew quickly. I've heard larvae can attack each other but I had no problems, all morphed with all four legs & perfect tails.

I did get fungus on some of the eggs, I used methylene blue as a dip and it sorted it quickly.
