Hello everyone,

How many chien firebelly newts do you reccomend I keepin a 10 gallon. Yes the tank has a lot of hiding spots. And will they fight? Thanks a lot.

I dont think they fight. But I think 2 newts will be my recommandation for a 10 gallons. it is always better to have bigger tank fewer creatures.

Three could be fine if you set it up right. I recomend using a good 4-5 inches of water and lots of plants, java moss and rocks. I have a man-made cave thingy I bought that my newts loved to hand out in on land. Oh yeah, and have the graval slopled on one side to provide dry land an inch or so above the water line.

What about a big artificial plant sticking out of the water. Would that be good for land area?

oh crude one,
i dont think 200 will fit w/o use of a blender

spencer,
3 will do fine in a 10 gallon, the higher the biomass (amount of animals in the 'system'-aka the tank) the larger the amount of water/land mass they will need -or- the more frequent the cleaning or additional use of filtration...to sum it up-'it depends'. i have kept 5 in a 15 gallon before w/o problems. it was nearly all full tank with lots of elodea and a box filter in the corner. i prefer not to have land areas for orientalis because they are prone to go to land and avoid water and not eat well. i give mine fake floating lily pads-this allows them to rest out of water w/o fully drying off, dry ones seem reluctant to return to water.
