I am used to feeding species that either come out and beg for food or hide all the time and I just dump food in. Recently I accquired 3 orientalis that came in a shipment by mistake. They were in bad shape and two have since died. The other one seems to be doing better. I have tried forcep feeding it however it seems skittish. Does this species ever settle down enough to allow forcep feeding or would it be better to offer food in a glass ash tray?

Once they are settled and healthy they become very bold and very "aggressive" eaters. Mine will eat pretty much anything as long as it´s at the end of the tweezers and always react to my presence. It does take some time, though, and being a recent import, you´ll need to be patient. Is it in terrestrial phase or aquatic? They are bolder in aquatic phase, but even when terrestrial they eventually learn to accept tweezer feeding, it just takes a bit longer and requires being a bit more gentle and slow so as not to scare them at first. After a while they´ll beg like puppies.

I originally had it in a simple quarantine enclosure with damp paper towels. The other two were heavily infested with sores so I was treating all three with silvadene. I could not get it to accept food however and after the other two died I just went ahead and put in a 10 gallon tank that I already had going (my standby, just in case I have unexpected eggs or larvae tank). It has eaten a few times but again is skittish. This one had a bad sore on it's right foot, which has since fallen off, but otherwise seems to be doing better. Thanks for the info Azhael.

This little fellow has really come around, coming out at feeding time and so forth. Sigh..I cannot have just one.

Always nice to hear about one that recovers from a rocky start!
