Hi i still need to cycle my tank. i havent tried yet cause i still need a filter. but i went to the pet store today and the man was familiar with axolotls and had a guy sell them there before and he told us to buy two products and im not sure if they are trustworthy.

tetra safe start "allows immediate addition of fish" it is suppose to prevent new tank syndrome and reduce ammonia and nitrite and contains patented BIO-spira bacteria..
i was told that shelf bacteria wouldnt work or can potentially caused problems for the fish later on is this true or will this work? he said to add it with 24 hrs of putting the fish in.

tetra aqua: aqua safe water conditioner "makes tap water safe for fish" is said to neutralize chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals harmful to fish. enhance natural, protective slime coating of fish and work in seconds.
i was told this will remove the chlorine although you can leave water sit and let it evaporate he said it would be convenient when changing the water. will this actually work also?

thank you sorry for all the typing. i would appreciate experienced or knowledgeable information because i dont want my axie to die. :)

Hi

You're right about the bacteria. It can cause your tank to crash later as you are typically just adding dead or anaerobic bacteria - the bad kind. Not recommended.

Aqua Safe is a good product for removing other impurities in addition to chlorine. If you have reason to believe or know (copy of your water report) other nasties are present, this is a good product. Otherwise, leaving the water out does eliminate chlorine.

You can cycle with the axolotl in, you just have to monitor your ammonia levels closely. See HERE
There is a section about cycling with animals.
