If i put Cardinal tetra's in there with my two, would they get eaten?

Probably, but Tetras would really prefer warmer water to be happy.

you could try guppies - they are more tolerant of cooler temperatures and are often suggested as goldfish tank mates.

Plus with the way they breed your axies will have fun chasing down their snacks and you will know the "snacks" are healthy

Yes, they will get eaten.

White cloud minnows and guppies are more tolerant of the colder water, and cheaper than tetras.

I thought that perhaps my minnows would not breed in the colder water (chiller set at 18 celc) but yesterday found that the 6 minnows left (of the 12 i put in) have had a brood and there was around 50 little minnow fry in there yesterday.

Bit of a surprise.

I havent tested guppies in the colder water, i havent got enough bred yet, but i would suggest they are more prolific than minnows, so i'm guessing they will still breed too

Cherry shrimp are also tolerant of the colder water, not sure if they will breed in there yet because they never last long enough (axies are particularly fond of cherry shrimp :) )

Okay thanks people. I put them in there, I know my monsters will eat them but I would rather allow my CS to breed and create an established population than watch them get eaten by fish...'specially as they are for the monsters!
