Something wrong with it?

Fish seems to have one of his feet on backwards. I noticed it tonight he was sitting on the bottom of his container and his left foot is backwards/upside down like he's walking on the back of his hand not his palm. I startled him he set of swimming and when he settled sure enough it's backwards again so I went back through all the pics I have of him and in almost all of them he has his leg back along his side.
Water is all normal he is the only hatchling of our axies first spawning the rest never made it to hatching.
Should I be worried about this? Is it a freak thing, I'm not sure how he could have hurt it and he's held it back along his body since we could see his legs, maybe a genetic defect? Should I be concerned that this will show up in future spawnings or that it will effect his live negatively?
I did notice that Daddy has 2 of his toes fused together on one foot, the 2 middle toes.

He's almost a month old now.

Ha ive heard of backwards feet and other strange deformities in axies (sometimes when they lose a leg it may grow back backwards, or sometimes grow two legs instead of one) to be honest captive axies are so inbred that I think this sort of thing and other odd deformities is just what happens. Im sure he will be fine with his backwards foot, axies dont really use their feet, even ones with just stumps dont seem to have any problems moving about the place! I guess your little guy is abit more unique than the rest of ours!

Hope he grows up to be a big strong axie!

Hi,

I would not worry too much about Fish at this point. He's still developing and it could just be the way he happens to be holding his foot. Juveniles do some very strange things! If you are not having at least one heart attack daily, then you aren't watching Fish enough! ;) So actually, if you see Fish doing something "normal" then you can worry...Axolotls, as a rule, love keeping us on our toes. :D

I would suggest that since you have seen genetic problems in his father that you may want to reconsider using Fish for future breeding though. The defects could become more prominent in future generations - something to consider.

When I got Speckled Jim back from the pet shop last year he only had 1 leg and 3 stumps! Two of those grew back normally but his front left leg grew back upside down and even weirder the 'hand' attched to this upside down leg has got 6 'fingers'! It doesnt seem to bother him in the slightest bit but he does look a bit odd because when he relaxes his 'arm' wraps round behind his back and makes him look like a snooty victorian lord. He just needs a top hat and monacle to complete the look.

I had an attacked axie in my tank. He was bitten in his foot and it was standing the wrong way too. But it all came back to normal. Hopefully it will happen to your axies foot too.

Thank's guys it doesn't seem to bother him at all and it could be that it's just how he's holding it at present I only noticed it last night but that's mostly because his only just gotten big enough to see his feet easily  I'll see what he does I guess.

I wasn't planning on breeding him but his parents may lay more in the future... their not using any protection ;) so more babies are a possibility but we would at most only keep a few from any of the future clutches we don't want to breed them, just have them as pets, so I will keep an eye out for this "defect" and try not to panic about little Fish. I guess if he is normal he will turn his foot when he's ready and if not I shouldn't be a drama for him.

 I can just picture Jim top hat and all maybe some little spats and a cane  Too cute

Thank you so much guys it is a shame the gene pool is so shallow though :(

Well after 5 days of watching him closely with his jolly foot he has finally got it up to where it's supposed to be
Thanks again for all your help.
