i read on here about feeding earthworms from a bait shop..is that the same as night crawlers? the black slimey ones we fish with? since they are in a bait shop then it is assumed they are safe to feed, or do they need to be quarantined?
Spike is still ( allegedly) just a baby ( ok...juvenile.. i think anything under 3 is a baby. sorry)...would he eat an entire worm?
just drop one in the top and watch spike hunt? is that correct also?

thanks.

Yes bait shop worms are the worms. I use nightcrawlers, and trout worms depending on the size of the animal being fed. Sometime in the spring I am going to breed my own E horientas because my worm bill is pretty high per week.

Worm size depends on animal size. Some worms I have to dice for my smaller guys, while cutting a worm in half works for larger. Some of my guys can eat a whole nightcrawler at once.

he's about 6 inches, nose to tail ( aprox of course)
if you chop them, then there is no hunting, right? or is it only if you cut off the head?
are troutworms smaller?
we went fishing over the summer and those nightcrawlers were pretty big...
thanks for all your help.

If you cut them you will still get some movement. Depending how large a piece the worm is it can still move around the terranium/tank. You want your pet to eat them not let them disappear into the woodwork. I would start off trying to feed from long tweezers, and then see what happens from there.

I usually cut my worms into 2-3 inch chunks. These are easily handled by most Ambystomatids. Spike can eat bigger pieces than you think!
