Hey! I heard about rocks you can buy that bubble and help circulate your tank water. I was wondering if it was necassary to have one in a tank for my Axie or if a filter would be enough for circulation since I've heard that currents in the water can easily cause axolotls stress.

Ahh air stones - I've noticed that there are mixed opinions on this forum about using them because some people say they are useless while others say they work. I have one that is about 12" long and it's at the opposite end to my filter just so that there isn't so much water flow in the one area. You can buy little things that look like this Google Image Result for http://www.boyu-australia.com/images/air%2520valve%2520control%2520pump%2520accessories.jpg and they allow you to adjust the amount of air that travels from the pump itself to the stone so you basically have control of how many bubbles you want :p And you'd be surprised, although axolotl's are supposed to hate too much water movement, a lot of axolotl's (including mine) love to ride the bubbles all the way to the top, it really is cute haha. I believe that it makes a difference to the water because my axolotl's aren't going to the surface to gulp air as often which is always a good thing

Thanks very much for the fast and very helpful answer! :) I hope my Axie does the same thing that would be adorable.

I agree with jessica, I think it's mostly your personal preference. I personally don't use them in my glass tanks because they splash water on the glass and then eventually cause a lot of calcium deposits that I find annoying to get off. Buuuut I know my old axolotl loved to play with the bubbles and it was a blast watching him float up and then fall down and then repeat like he was a kid on a slide lol.

A good filter will circulate your water well enough usually though. Up to you :]
