I'm new to Caudata.org, and owning axolotls. I have read practically every post on here, and I can't seem to find what size hides would be good. I have some leftover slate pieces and large pebbles I would like to glue together into a hide, but I'm not sure how big to make it. I am getting a pair of juvvies soon, but I'd rather not make another set of hides down the road when they get bigger. I was going to make the first DIY hide out of the plastic container in this post (DIY/Homemade Hides), and a version of the slate and pebble hide further down made by MandiceP, but longer, with sort of stacked slate walls all ground smooth and glued together with silicone.

I know they can grow quite large, and I'm looking for some dimension suggestions.

They need to be big enough for an adult to climb in and be able to turn around. Axolotls aren't the most agile, so you probably want something at least 6 inches or so. many people use clay pots turned on side for hides.
