Q about Taricha amplexus

If two Tarichas are in the act of amplexus, is the one initiating it definitely a male, and the receiver definitely a female? Or, is only the one intiating amplexus definitely a male? Or, is neither of these for sure?

Males will amplex anything that moves, and females are pretty apt to amplex things too.

I grabbed my camera, since they were still going at it...Well, it's totally obvious who the male is.
Kaysie, do you recognize him? You should.

The second and third picture...my head is full of jokes about the honeymoon suite and the mirrored bedroom walls...and other dumb jokes.

They're so cute, she's just giving him a piggy back ride all around the tank, and he won't let go even for a waxworm!

Anyway, here's hoping for eggs!

i have one that im prety sure is a female and she has amplexed things, and my other taricha when i had it

That's my boy!! He may be little, but he's got spirit. lol.

For those that don't know: I sent Dawn a definite male (he goes REALLY smooth during breeding season), in hopes he woos some of her females.
