Hey!
I’m upgrading my ribbed newts from a 20 to 40 gallon. I put them in a shoe bin with some, water, plants and floating cork bark while I drained their tank and moved some of their decor and substrate over.
Only problem is the new tanks substrate is clouding up the water a LOT. (I did rinse it pretty well or so I thought) How long will this take to go down? Should I put them in anyways? How long can they stay in the tub they’re in?
For reference their filter sponge is rated for up to 50 gallons so I was just to moved it over along with the plants and substrate so it cycles instantly. Just thought I’d mention that.

After doing a 50% water change it cleared up significantly, gonna wait for tomorrow to add plants and newts, I did put the filter in and squeezed it in there to spread all that bacteria around!

Most likely it's fine. But it depends on the substrate. Also keep testing for ammonia for the next couple of weeks. Even reusing a filter won't guarantee your new tank is cycled. Your old tank likely has significant bacteria in the old substrate. But ya, you are 'probably' fine to put them in the tank. Just do water changes if you get ammonia.

I switched the substrate and plants over too!
I changed around 50% of the water as well and it cleared a lot. It was almost completely clear this morning so I went ahead and added them in!
I’m about to do a water test!
