Hello ive been an owner of tow hongkongs for about 4 months and one died , yesterday it had an odd brown skinlike substance on its mouth and today it jsut died as for my other newt it looks well and healthy . I just wanted to ask what basic care facts i could use to keep my living newt healthy and will he be alrite by himself in the tank ? Thanks and gratitude to anyone who may help .

I don't know anything about hongkongs, but are you sure the "odd brown skinlike substance" wasn't it's previously shedded skin which it was eating?

i dont know but it was pretty thick , so im not sure if it was shedded .

Like I said previously, I don't even know what honkkongs are, but I did read on this site somewhere that newts aren't really social creatures and are just fine living alone. I have a firebelly living alone, as well as a rough-skinned newt who also lives alone (although I am looking for a partner for both.)
