Hey everyone I was spot cleaning my tanks today when I noticed my little H. dunni had what looked like a long piece of moss stuck to its side. I went to pick it off and ended up pulling what looks like a small sharp twig straight out of the little guy's side. It looks like it actually was somehow punctured in the side of the animal. There is a little red mark where I pulled it out from but otherwise its acting normal. I have the animal soaking in a shallow dish of cold clean water. The twig must have been in the moss somewhere and I hadn't noticed.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else? Is it going to be alright? I know caudates are good healers but still I'm concerned.

I've never experienced this, but it sound like you are doing the right thing. Are you confident that there is nothing left in the wound? Did the stick puncture th bdy cavity or did it just stick into the skin?
Just keep the animal clean (perhaps on paper towels) and cool and keep an eye on it. If it looks fine in a week or two, it should be OK.

All the best

Yes I have since been keeping it on moist paper towels. It may have just been in the skin considering the fact that its been about a week and he is acting normal and healthy and eating as piggishly as always. I just remember it was stuck in there pretty good. Just a little scab-like mark left from where I pulled the twig out of.

I´ve found that they have a remarkable hability to regenerate. I could believe that a healthy animal would be able to sustain and recover easily from a puncture (specially after having seen the way they can regenerate their tails). These are tough little bastards...as well as bloody-minded and vicious..xD
