Hi There,

Towards the end of last week, I noticed that one of my efts was not really using his back right leg. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that it appeared to be slightly swollen. I was a tad worried, but thought that I'd better just keep an eye on it. He was still eating fine.

2 days ago, I noticed what looked like a thin "cap" of skin over the foot, that was moist underneath. He was still eating so, while worried, I wasn't overly concerned. I thought that he may have had some difficulty with the area whilst shedding, or somesuch, and eased it off for him.

Today, however, things have taken a turn for the worse. He didn't eat, for a start, but the leg also looks much worse. I'm not entirely sure what's up, to be honest. It is immobile, and has a "lump" at the end, where the foot should be. It looks to me like this has formed over the foot. The surface felt a bit granular, but I didn't want to overly stress him, so I've let him be for now.

Any opinions / advice would be much appreciated. I'll separate him into his own enclosure as soon as possible.

Oh man that looks terrible. That doesnt look good. Maybe its just me but the base of the leg looks kind of pinkish like whatever it is has spread to the body. It looks seriously infected to me. I have heard of people amputating limbs to stop the spread of infection although that probably isnt the most humane way to do it. It seems that maybe its too advanced by the pics also. I hope someone will come with a real solution. Good luck!

AHHH! I hope someone gives you some advice soon! I'm sorry about your poor baby!

Hi again,

Thankyou for your replies. I'm sorry to say that this eft died during the day.

Liam.

I'm really sorry to hear that

I know no one really gave you advice. I'm surprised that none of the more advanced and knowledgable newt keepers knew of anything. I had two pet shop cynops orientalis juveniles die in the past few weeks.

Not much you can do for those guys, but I wish we knew what was wrong with yours! Sorry again.
