Hey all.

I'm moving my axie into a 20 gal. long tank and am thinking about using a powerhead rather than a hang on filter.
Has anyone had success with this?
If so, what is a good set up.

A use of the forum search function will provide you with the answers you need. Use "powerhead" as the key word.

internal filter heat production?

so i've scrapped the powerhead idea. seems like there would be too much of a current.
i've decided on purchasing an internal filter, but had a question and didn't see it addressed directly in any other thread.

how much heat is produced by an internal filter?
primarily a fluval 1 or 2 vs. duetto 100?
anyone have experience or a degree range in which these filters might raise the temps?
given my axies current temp is around 62 degrees i would only feel comfortable with + 3 degrees, give or take.

any feedback is appreciated.

Well, that's actually a pretty complicated question. The answer is it depends upon the wattage of the filter in question, mainly. I don't have the wattage numbers off the top of my head anymore, but I believe that all of those are lower power consumption. I know that the Duetto 50 is around 2-5watts. In my experience a Duetto 50 raised water temps around 1-2 degrees F. I think that the Duetto 100 would be reasonably close to that, maybe closer to 2-3.

hey Abrahm, thanks for the response.
i was hoping the increase in temps would be under 3 degrees which sounds like that might be the case.
sidenote: the fluval 1 is 4 wts., fluval 2 is 4.5 wts and the duetto 100 is 4wts.

i've tried doing google searches/search older threads here to see if there is a breakdown of wattage and raised water temps to no avail.
i thought i would just try and ask folks if they had any experience from current/previous use of these types of filters and if so what the increase in temps could possibly be.

thanks again.
