So here in the maritimes we are currently getting a snowricane. Or that is what I am calling it lol. And I am afraid we are going to lose power from the high winds we are having. I am just looking for some advice on if the power goes out for more then a few hours.
I have 5 adults in a 50gallon and three juveniles in a 10gallon(they are only 2" each, its just temporary setup while i wait to find them homes) and i also have a bbs hatchery that has a air pump going as I also have hatchlings.
I currently have 14 gallons of dechlorinated water sitting around just in case. My plan was to take the filter media out if the power went out and put that in a bucket of tank water.. And either do a large water change in the tank or just remove all the axies depending on how long the power was out for. I dont want any spikes and since The tank is already a bit crowded(i cant wait to find a place to put a bigger tank!) i dont want any spikes.
I also want to know what the chances of keeping the beneficial bacteria alive.. I doubt there is a chance but i am not positive so if somebody knows that would be great
I have had this tank set up for 8 months now, and its pretty healthy, other then algae but I can live with that.. I am not to concerned over losing the beneficial bacteria in the 10gallon, just my 50gallon has taken me so long to get it where it is :s
