Your tank looks a little small for 2 axolotls, how many gallons is it?

I think it's 60L. I know it's 2 foot. I often worry that it's not big enough but I have posted previously regarding size, and everyone has stated 30cm per axolotl as a good starting point. Should I ever get the chance I intend to upgrade.

60L is fine for two. Just keep up with your water quality and it will be fine, that that even goes for keeping two in a hundred litres.

I hadn't spotted this before. Is it normal for Axies to only have a certain amount of gills? I'm guessing 3 either side is the norm?

Yes. Injuries can result in extra branching.
