Many threads that I've tried to start often never appear. And multiple threads that I am able to start, no replies ever come. A couple posts I've posted have also never shown up. Why is this happening?

Are they in particular sections? Many sections are moderated, meaning your posts/threads have to be approved.

Not really..it happens very randomly. I feel lucky that this thread made it!

Sorry, a bit off topic but I have been here for a few years now and I still don't know how to make a new post. Where's the button?

Start from the main forum page
http://www.caudata.org/forum/
Choose the category you want.
Look in the upper left, but underneath all the menus. There should be a button that says "New Thread".

We are sort of cranky about the content that goes into the advanced sections of the forum. I would bet that your disappearing posts didn't get through the approval process. Unfortunately, the forum software doesn't send you anything to tell you your post was rejected.

This thread is in a section that doesn't go through the approval process. As long as your browser and internet connection are working, posts here wouldn't disappear.

Another way to start a new thread is to select the forum or subforum, go to 'Forum tools' at the top right, then click on 'post a new thread'. If you are trying to make a new post to a current thread, go to the end of the thread. On the bottom left, click the 'post reply' button, write your post, then click 'submit reply'.
