Okay so I've been looking at Axolotls online for a while now, and I'm considering buying one. Are they an easier or harder species? What temperature/setup do they need? Is anyone selling any in the U.S. at the moment? I would preferably like a white or a dark Axolotl...

Have you read The Axolotl Site yet? In addition, the axolotl section to the forum has approximately a bazillion threads in it. I guarantee almost any beginner question you have has been asked and answered there.

philp at buy axolots.com. is agreat guy.and has some of best axolotls around.

Have patience and you should find plenty of quality hobbyists and breeders on this site that have nice axolotls for sale.

I checked out the Axolotl site, and it was very helpful. The only Caudates I am experienced with is Notophthalmus Viridescens. Is there much of a difference between the two? The only other question I have left is...who is selling dark/wild-type Axolotls at the moment?

There's a significant amount of difference. They're not closely related.

The 'for sale' section is kept up to date.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
