I think I may have found the cause of why his gills deteriorated and why they won't grow back-
I only just found out aquasafe plus isnt recommended for axolotls because there's iodine in it. Does anyone else know if that could be the reason? And if using Prime now will fix things? Aside from the nitrates being on the higher side, that's the only possible cause I can find. All other parameters are good (pH 7.2, ammonia 0, nitrites 0, temp within the 60⁰F range, no current with a sponge filter, no tank mates aside from snails. Nitrates seem to range from 20-30. I do weekly water changes and he has a real plant in there thats supposed to help, so I've read. There are also no nitrates in our tap water.) And, should I wait for the next water change or do one now with the new dechlorinator? I only just learned this after thinking "wait maybe it's the dechlorinator." And looking it up after doing the water change :/
