I have bred Cynops ensicauda popei for 4 years in a row, but this year I saw something strange. I have seen some lighter and darker animals when they are larvae, but not this much.

I have one adult popei female with a strange colour, I have her since a year and her previous owner said she was light when he got her, but not that light..

What do you say, will the light animal turn dark again, or will it be a colour morph?

Hey Rob!
I also had that kind of brightness variation with my larvae. I have c.e.popei offspring for 2 years now and experienced, that most of the larvae are dark an only some are brighter, but after the metamorphosis, they all turned pitch-black.
But if you are a lucky person, your morphs will have some characteristics of their mother, which looks really nice!

If I were to bet money, I would bet that the larva will be a typical black metamorph. Keep us posted, it will be interesting to see the result!

Your female is a really interesting coloration.
