Poor Waffle and Mr. Blik! Such a bad week for the boys...

So as some of you know, I'm the new owner of Waffle and Mr. Blik, two average everyday firebelly newts.

Poor boys had a rough week. First, I decide to bring Mr. Blik home. Then I rearrange the tank. Then neither will eat or touch the water. Mr. Blik has a one track mind: climb out of the aquarium (don't worry, I made sure there is no place for him to get out) Can't get him to eat a thing and he is so skinny and probably really stressed.

If that wasn't enough, wait until you hear what happened today. I moved Waffle and Mr. Blik to a holding tank where they happily settled in, so I could clean their tank a bit and work on the filter, which hasn't been working right. I didn't want to stress them out more by working in their space for a long period of time.

I took the tank out of my dorm room to clean it, and SMASH! Dropped it! So for a few hourse Mr. Blik and Waffle were homeless. I went out and bought them a new tank and am trying to cycle it as quickly as possible so they can go in it, as they are crammed in a tiny little container right now (although, they seem happier in that tiny box then they did in the aquarium...there is just no pleasing them!)

So, just thought I'd update you guys and share my misery!

When my newts won't eat, I put them in a small container with a ton of blackworms. Like soup.
That usually gets them eating. I had a couple firebellies that wouldn't eat when I first got them, and I'd do that every couple days, and then they started eating normally.

Sorry about your tank! I've busted a few myself being clumsy. I always have a spare plastic "kritter keeper" around for emergencies, and as a hospital tank when I need one.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
