My axolotls have been having to stay in big plastic tubs in my bathroom for about a month while i get their new tank set up. They have been perfectly fine. I have been doing daily water changes and they look helathier than ever. Then on Saturday i was gone for about 5 hours and when I come back I go in to change their water for that day and I dont see the wildtype...I look and then he had jumped out and landed in my sink! He was kind of sticky so he was probably out for an hour or so. I imidiately put him back in the tub and mixed up some water with Stress coat and put him in that container. Its been 3 days since then and he is doing good now. His slimecoat (maybe even a little skin) kinda of fell off but he now seems to be doing good and is moving around and everything fine. I just don't understand how he jumped out in the first place. There was a couple inches between the top of the tub and the water level. Oh well all that matters is that he's okay. But is there anything I should do or look for? Oh and the tip of his tail seems like it got really dry and kind of cracked (it has some bloody looking spots on it, very small though). I don't want to give him a salt bath yet because his slimecoat has been damaged so much.

Grant - put in some extra stress coat and get some lids.

Is he eating yet?

hhmm. thats sound exactly like what happened to me about a month ago. my axie was in a plastic tub and i went out and came home to find him no where near his tub on the floor. he was dried out too but mine was disorientated. he couldnt walk and didnt eat for nearly a week. he became anorexic until he finally ate some live food. now he is doing great and the only evidence that he has of that happening to him is a scar under his belly where he scraped himself but it is slowly healing. dont worry about the tail mine got cracked too but that has healed. the main thing now is to put more stress coat in and try to feed him.

Thank goodness for stress coat huh guys? Hope he gets better, Grant! Good luck ^_^

Yea Cynthia I put in extra stress coat. The tank is finally all set up. The ammonia and nitrites have been at zero for a week now and nitrates are at .5. He has no cuts or anything any more and seems to be doing great. He has been eating great (he is the one that will eat anything anytime). My girlfriend's golden is the one that wasn't eating and I got him all fixed up and he's doing great to now.

Grant - That is good to hear, sometimes I can't believe how durable axolotls are.
