Is it unethical or unhealthy for the animal if I want my Tiger Sal. to be a chub? I'm not talking about morbidly obese like some of the pictures you can find online. I'm just talking about a little more girth than usual. I'm just curious as to what is considered normal for a Tiger Sal. and what Tiger enthusiasts prefer there little buddies to look like...thoughts? pics? please lets hear some opinions.

Tigers are stocky by nature. By making them overweight, you put them at risk for premature death.

Stocky by nature? What do you mean by that exactly? If they are stocky looking by nature wouldn't that mean that stocky was average and therefore a Tiger who looked more then just stocky would just be slightly overweight?

Here's a picture somebody posted: http://www.caudata.org/forum/member...ers-picture13196-barred-tiger-salamander.html

This animal looks grossly overweight...but I guess what I'm wondering is at what point does my Tiger cross the line from stocky to obese? and is it dangerous if my Tiger does get slightly larger then just the normal "stocky".

my sally is a third of the size of the one in that picture. he eats salamander bites. since i joined this site i have fed him more because i thought he was skinny. he has gained a little weight but is still no comparison to that cutie in the picture..

Wow... it's like... round.... o_O

I think Kaysie means they're not just really fat, but they have a bigger frame. They have a larger belly and arms from what I've seen in other salamanders and newts. I suppose like a football player. Alot of them are just big, not necessarily fat.

I think generally the body is supposed to be maybe a little bigger than the head. Mine is just slightly chubby.

I mean, if he starts looking round instead of elongated, I'd consider feeding him less.

Allegoriest, very well put. Thank you.
