What a great picture! I just want to hug the little guy. I will look up this species for fun info. Thanks!

Lovely photo Tim, I always seem to either get out of focus or they decide to move off mid picture, I have some lovely clear tank shots with a blurry tail just disappearing off the edge.

Thanks! Pamela, this is the ultimate beginner's newt as far as I'm concerned so do look it up.

Jeffrey, use a digital camera, take repeated shots of the scene you're trying to capture, and then choose the one that came out best

P.waltl in amplexus:

The male on the bottom is misperforming amplexus by amplexing the female's back legs

Thanks Jen. It's always a thrill to see the pics being used at CC

I noticed the T.kweichowensis ones today while introducing your site to a Japanese friend.

By the way, what's the secret to getting a copyright (c) to show up using your keyboard? I have a Japanese keyboard and can't find this mark anywhere. Clipping and pasting it somehow does not work with my software...

Tim, Jeff has a digital cam, and maybe 3 out of every 100 shots turn out. He's just a bad photographer ;)

He also had waltls that didnt know what they were doing, and the male would amplex the female backwards. Didnt know her butt from her face. One really dumb male? or one REALLY ugly female?

Are you into Pleuro's now too Tim or did you take the shots at the petshop?

If you use word it is very simple. Insert symbol and in that same popup you can make a bind for that (c) symbol. eg: AltGr + C

@ Joseph: I have 6 pleuro's: they all have the yellow rim

Joeri, these four Pleuros are the newts I've had longer than any others, the first I got after moving back to Japan from Thailand some 3 years ago. I just hardly post pics of them, that's all

They've bred for me twice.

About the (c) mark, thanks for the help but I didn't quite understand those instructions...could you reword your explanation? I know the Alt key but what's the AltGr key?

I'd love to visit your zoo one day Tim, unfortunatly you don't live next door (so to say)

Alt is on the left of my spacebar, AltGr on the right. But you have a different keyboard, so maybe you don't have it. AltGr is the key I use when I need a third symbol on a single key, like '@'.

If you have microsoft Word:
open Word - insert symbol - find the (c) symbol - click 'create shortcut'
My Word has automaticly ctrl+alt+C as a default for that symbol. It doesn't work on this forum though. But what you can do is copy-paste it, also to paint; I have done that before.

Hahaha, mine have that too. Or when one male is in amplexus with the female, a second male joins in by grabbing the males backlegs. They make crazy sights

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
