My brother's paddle tail newt, tony, has a white, well what looks like a scrape on its tail. i have successfully treated this with bactine and recomended that he use the same treatment. however tony did what my brother described as "throwing up" ("goo came out of its mouth and it was just weird", to be exact.) after his first treatment of bactine. he wants to save tony! what can we do for him???

Are you sure that this is a scrape and not the normal white color that appears on the tail of male paddletails? Is it present on BOTH sides of the tail?

i am absolutley posituvley sure that itis a scrape. (tony may even be a toni. my brother said it was a guy and i wasnt about to take it up with a 10 yr old.)

Is it possible that the bactine was over-applied (too much of it)? One should use this with care, as it contains lidocaine. It may be better to try Neosporin, the kind WITHOUT the pain killer. It may be necessary to keep the newt in a secure tub with damp paper towels after applying the ointment so it doesnt wash off right away.
