Can you show some pictures of before she lightened?

I don't keep them myself, but could the lighter coloring be a sign of shedding old skin?

This is what she used to look like. She was losing color around her face and I've been here and fb and no one had answers.... Now this is where we are!

I have no idea, the only thing I can think of is that your axolotl is actually a tiger salamander larva. But that is improbable.

Axolotl can become lighter in colour when kept in a lighter environment, maybe this is what is happening :)

I'm actually more worried about the gills. They appear to have gotten stringier; is she going for air at the surface a lot?
I had a golden axolotl that turned significantly paler and lost his gill quality because of an infection inside its gills.
As it's more difficult to breathe, they might become paler, due to less oxygen in their body.
If no one else has any better idea, I'd say your axolotl could do with some salt baths.

My very dark wt changed from almost black to gray over a couple weeks when she was about a year old... so maybe if your lotl is younger they are changing color as they mature? I would just make sure the water quality is good, and as long as its gills don't get too thin, it could just be changing colors as it ages.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
